October 31, 2026Choosing FBR digital invoicing software is not like choosing a normal invoicing tool. A missed or malformed submission is a compliance risk, not just a bug. Here are seven questions worth asking any vendor before you commit. This is general guidance, not tax or legal advice.
Ask whether invoices reach FBR at the moment of the sale, or whether the software collects them and uploads in batches. Real-time submission is the point of digital invoicing; batching brings back the end-of-period scramble.
Systems go down. The software should not block you from selling. Ask how it queues invoices, retries, and shows you what is still pending, so nothing is silently lost.
You need a view of filed, pending and flagged invoices, not just a promise that it works. If something is rejected you want to know today, not during an audit.
If you run accounting software, an ERP or a POS, ask exactly how the connection is made. Software that forces you to re-enter every invoice by hand defeats the purpose.
Expect to provide registration details (NTN or CNIC, STRN if registered) and to have an IRIS account. A vendor should never need your IRIS password or PIN. Be cautious of anyone who asks for it.
Look for transparent monthly pricing tied to something you can predict, such as the number of invoices per month, with no hidden per-invoice surprises. Ask what a discount for annual billing looks like.
Compliance problems do not wait for office hours. Ask how quickly you can reach a person, and in which channel (many Pakistani businesses prefer WhatsApp).
